A Practical Way to Organise Digital Photos
Digital photos accumulate quickly across phones, computers, messaging apps, and cloud services. A simple system makes important images easier to find without turning organisation into a permanent project.
Gather photos into one working location
Start by copying recent images into a single folder or library. Keep the original files until the new structure has been checked and backed up.
Organise by year and event
Broad folders such as year, month, trip, or occasion are usually more useful than highly detailed categories. Choose labels that will still make sense several years later.
Remove obvious duplicates
Delete accidental screenshots, blurred images, and repeated copies in small batches. Do not try to review an entire archive in one sitting.
Keep more than one copy
Store the organised library in at least two places. A computer and an external drive, or a local copy and a trusted cloud service, provide basic protection against loss.
Final thoughts
A useful photo system should make browsing enjoyable and maintenance easy. Consistency matters more than perfect classification.
